Domaine des Deux Roches Saint Veran ‘Les Pommards’ 2021
Type: White
Country: France
Region: Burgundy
Grape Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Alcohol Percentage: 13%
Viticulture: Organic Farming
Climate: Semi-continental climate with variations in temperatures
Terroir: “Les Pommards” is located in Davayé, on the northern slope of the extension of the Roche de Solutré. Facing it, located due south, is its counterpart, the “Côte Rôtie” climate. Here our vines share the view with the hazelnut trees. It is a cool area favouring slow maturation. The vines are planted in the middle of the slopes, on limestone soils with red clays, rich in iron.
Ageing: The harvest is carried out manually. After harvest, the grapes are loaded by gravity into pneumatic presses. The presses are slow and long in order to delicately extract the juices and thus preserve the aromatic finesse. Then the musts are cooled and decanted and put directly into the barrels. The vinification takes place in wood (less than 10% new barrels). Depending on the vintage, malolactic fermentation is desired or not. The ageing takes place on fine lees until early summer. From picking to bottling, we limit the use of inputs such as SO2 as much as possible.
Color: Brilliant gold
Nose: Generous aromas of ripe Bergeron apricots, white flowers and dried fruits
Palate: Its flesh of white nectarine is awakened by a touch of bright acidity over a body of elegance and balanced minerality
About the Winery:
Based in the village of Davayé, in the Mâconnais, the Domaine is a joint project of Jean-Luc Terrier and Christian Collovray. Their 50 hectares of vineyards largely lie between the twin escarpments of Solutré and Vergisson and showcase the diverse terroirs of this region.
Jean-Luc and Christian were childhood friends that each grew up in a family of winemakers and shared a bond from a young age. Always looking to achieve the highest possible quality for their wines, they achieved the High Environmental Certification in 2017 and are now working towards becoming certified organic. Following the success of Deux Roches, the friends now also boast a second property, Altugnac (Languedoc).
Their wines are among the very best expressions of the diverse terroirs of the Mâconnais, from the bright and breezy Bourgogne Blanc Tradition, vinified and raised exclusively in stainless steel, to the rich, textured St Véran.
