Sustainable Farming

Situated amidst the Bauges Regional Natural Park, between Chambéry and Albertville, and nestled beneath the steep foothills facing the Alps, lies the Domaine Saint-Germain. Covering an area of 13.5 hectares, this estate stretches across the sunlit hillsides of Saint-Pierre d’Albigny, a commune with a longstanding history of vine cultivation dating back to ancient times.

Established in 1999, the Domaine Saint-Germain emerged from the ardour of the younger generation, driven by their passion for vineyards and winemaking, carrying on the legacy of their traditional family enterprise. The cornerstone of their approach revolves around environmental consciousness, a profound admiration for grapes, and a commitment to crafting sincere and expressive wines. These guiding principles influenced their choice of cultivation methods and vinification processes.

Their conscientious practices have led the estate to transition to organic production, eschewing chemical weeding and embracing interventions that protect the vines naturally. The careful selection of vineyards, along with specific grape varieties, controlled yields, and traditional vinification techniques aiming to minimize interventions between grape harvesting and ageing, all contribute to extracting the true essence of the terroir and grape varieties.

At the Domaine Saint-Germain, they craft Savoie wines using an assortment of grape varieties such as Jacquère, Chardonnay, Velteliner Rose, Roussanne, Petite Arvine, Mondeuse Blanche, and Altesse for white wines, and Gamay, Pinot Noir, Persan, and Mondeuse Noire for red wines. This diverse array of grapes allows them to produce unblended wines, each possessing distinct characteristics suitable for various occasions. From wines that should be savoured young to relish their freshness and fruitiness to wines that mature in the cellar, revealing the full potential of each vintage, the Domaine Saint-Germain offers a rich tapestry of unique and memorable wines.
