Both Richi Arambarri, CEO of the company, and Raúl Acha, technical director, come from Alto Najerilla, the area of La Rioja with the highest concentration of old vineyards of this variety, which they both know well. Their family vineyards are the starting point to explore the Ebro Valley in search of the best Garnachas, which transfer the landscape they come from to the glass.
With this project, they want to demonstrate that Garnacha is a world-class variety. They do it through six wines made in five different areas of Aragón, Catalonia and Rioja, where they have gone in search for and recovered old vineyards. They arrived at La Garnatxa Fosca del Priorat vineyard in search of the minerality of its soils and the Mediterranean influence.
Terroir: Over 60 years old vineyards, located between 300 and 400 metres above sea level on the terraced slopes of Molar (Tarragona)
Ageing: Maceration for 2 weeks, controlled fermentation in vats at the temperature bellow 28ºC. 10 months ageing in French oak barrels

Nose: Interesting bouquet where the varietal characteristics are perfectly combined with mineral and oaky touch
Palate: Rich and tasty wine, with great balance, elegance and harmony. Great balance of acidity which emphasizes its drinkability and pleasant finish

About the Winery:
‘Proyecto Garnachas de España’ is a journey through Garnacha history from the perspective of Raul Acha, Vintae oenologist and passionate advocate of the variety. His journey begins in his family home in Cárdenas (La Rioja), where his grandfather planted Garnacha vineyards over one hundred years ago.

To prove their relevance, Raul decides to look for similar cases of old Garnacha vineyards in a journey through the Ebro basin. Along the way, he found some of the vineyards that best reflect the essence of this variety and will engage in conversation with different winegrowers who will tell him about the local Garnacha history and its evolution.

The result of this adventure is a very personal collection of monovarietal wines that express perfectly the versatility, the nuances and the singularities typical of each area of production.

The result is three modern wines, made respecting the minimum intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The proof that by combining the power of Tinta de Toro with the gentleness of the land we come from, it is possible to produce an intense but elegant wine.
