About the Winery: The Melsheimer Winery on the Moselle has been family-owned for 200 years. For five generations, the Melsheimer family has grown beautiful grapes on the steep slopes around Reil in the Moselle. In 1995, Torsten Melsheimer joined the family business after completing a degree in viticulture and began to move to organic farming, and in 1997 became a member of Ecovin.
Thorsten Melsheimer handles extreme steep slopes where only manual work is possible. He grows almost exclusively Riesling. The Moselle has been famous for its wines from this grape variety for centuries, and many connoisseurs believe that it produces the best results here. Receiving the 2007 Riesling Award is further confirmation of his ongoing commitment to quality. Filigree, aromatic still wines and excellent Melsheimer sparkling wines were highly appreciated by both wine critics and consumers.
