Terroir: This Superiore red wine comes from some of the best grapes grown in Bolgheri DOC. The I Greppi estate comprises three separate parcels, each with a distinctive soil-type, in the central and northern parts of the DOC. The Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted in gravel, sandstone, and clay/limestone soils
Ageing: Alcoholic fermentation and maceration on the skins take place in stainless steel vats for around 30 days at a controlled temperature of 28°C. Malolactic fermentation follows in French oak barrels. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels followed by a minimum of 6 months in the bottle. Half of the oak barrels used for ageing are replaced every year to control the tannin levels

Nose: Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cooked plums, liquorice, light earth, oak, light vegetables, cola, light barnyard, chocolates, tobacco leaf and coffee
Palate: A rich and decadent wine with hints of incense, dark berries and black tea. Full-bodied with well-integrated fruit in the mid-palate bringing forth a juicy, lightly chewy and tannic backbone

About the Winery:
I Greppi was founded on the Tuscan coast in 2001 by two of Tuscany’s most famous winemaking families, the Cancellieri and Landini. Although it was purchased by an investment group in 2017, Alessandro Landini, known for the production of Chianti, continues to serve as a consultant to the current owners.

The estate stretches over 14 hectares planted a stone’s throw from the Tuscan coast in the spiritual homeland of the Super Tuscan movement. The farm’s proximity to water creates the ideal conditions for extended ripening: Ventilation from the sea helps to cool the fruit during summer months and keep the grape bunches dry and healthy (free from mildew or rot).

Biodiversity among the vines is bolstered by the presence of two human-made lakes on the estate. Not only do they help to increase the presence of insects and other animals, but they also help to cool the vineyards in summer.
