Casas del Bosque Pinot Noir Reserva 2020
Type: Red
Country: Chile
Region: Casablanca Valley
Grape Variety: 100 % Pinot Noir
Alcohol Percentage: 14%
Climate: Mild and cool, dry climate
Terroir: A selection of fruit from ungrafted vines planted between 1999 and 2009 in our vineyard in the westernmost reaches of the Casablanca Valley. Mainly sourced from hillside blocks planted on iron-rich red clay mixed with decomposed granite
Ageing: On arrival at the winery all grapes were destemmed and crushed to open-top tanks. The must was then cold soaked for 2-3 days, before fermentation started spontaneously, with temperatures peaking at 32ºC/90ºF. During fermentation the vats were hand-plunged twice daily in order to extract the ideal amount of tannin and colour. Following the completion of fermentation the wine was drained off (after a total maceration time of 14 days or less) and put to barrel. The wine was aged for a average of 6 months in second to fifth-use French oak barrels before being blended, fined and bottled with minimal filtration
Color: Ruby red in colour
Nose: Ripe strawberries, cherries and caramel on the nose, complemented by savoury aromas of hay and liquorice.
Palate: Supple, with silky tannins and just enough acidity to keep the wine lively. Clean and pleasant finish
About the Winery:
Casas del Bosque is located 70 km from Santiago, the capital of Chile, and 30 km from one of the principal ports of Chile, Valparaiso. It was established in 1993 to be a family boutique winery exclusively oriented to the production of high quality wines. Casas del Bosque has its own vineyards in the Casablanca Valley with 235 hectares planted, exclusively dedicated to the production of cool-climate varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Syrah. Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère come from the Maipo, Colchagua and Chachapoal valleys.
One of Casas del Bosque’s biggest strengths is its soil. In the hills, red clay composites of volcanic origin sit on top of decomposed granite layers formed 110 million years ago beneath the Pacific Ocean. This soil gives our wines the unique characteristic sea salt flavor.
The winery has been awarded the prestigious award of “Best Chilean Wine Producer” for 2 consecutive years (2013 and 2014) at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London, a well-deserved testament to our commitment to producing quality wine.
